Virtual Machine Backup and Restore

By storing the disk image of the virtual machine in the Interconnected Storage (ICS) directly installed on the host of the High Response Private Cloud, it becomes an isolated structure that is fast, highly responsive, and less susceptible to influence from other virtual machines. However, if the host containing the virtual machine becomes unable to boot or the SSD becomes damaged, etc., and access to the SSD becomes impossible, the data of the virtual machine that was running at that time will be completely lost. In that case, it will be necessary to restore it from a backup.

Backup (HRPC Replication) Specifications

  • The RPO (Recovery Point Objective) is a minimum of 1 hour, with the default being 12 hours.
  • Backups are stored in Enterprise Storage and Backup Storage.
    • You should contract for dedicated NFS storage that is at least twice the total capacity of the virtual machines to be backed up. This is because it includes the data from the previous generation, the backup itself, and the data being backed up.
    • It is possible to take two or three generations of backups as necessary. In that case, the contract capacity must be at least three or four times the total capacity of the virtual machine. If you need to change the settings, please contact our support desk or sales representative.
    • It is possible to move stopped virtual machines to dedicated NFS storage and store them there. Virtual machines that you no longer need to run but would like to store can be stored at low cost.
    • Since the dedicated NFS storage is intended solely for backup purposes, virtual machines should not be booted directly from this storage.
  • Backup processing may not be performed properly depending on the situation.
    • If unsuccessful, an email will be sent to the user .
    • This is most likely due to insufficient disk space on the dedicated NFS storage or insufficient primary space on the local SSD storage.
    • If the backup criteria are met, the backup will occur again at the next available time (usually an hour later).
  • The RTO (Recovery Time Objective: the expected time it takes for a system to recover from an outage) varies depending on the disk size of the virtual machine.
    • The larger the disk size of the virtual machine, the longer it will take to recover.
  • Please note that backups will not be taken for stopped virtual machines.
