How to Exclude Specific Virtual Machines from Backup

By default, backup (replication) targets all running virtual machines. If you want to save backup capacity and time by excluding unnecessary data from the backup, you can exclude the relevant virtual machine from the backup target by adding a tag.

This page describes how to exclude specific virtual machines from being backed up.

Procedure

1. Open the target virtual machine (backup)

Open the list of virtual machines and click the virtual machine that you want to exclude from backup.

Open the target virtual machine (backup)

2. Click the Add Tag button

Click the “+” button on the “General” tab.

Click the Add Tag button

3. Add tags to exclude files from backups

Type “ExcludedBackup” in the text box that appears and press Enter.

Add a tag for backup exclusion

* “ExcludedBackup”: Our proprietary management tag

4. Completed

The tag “ExcludedBackup” has been added.
