Starting, Restarting, and Stopping a Virtual Machine

This page explains how to perform the following operations from the Xen Orchestra administration screen.

Start The Virtual Machine

1. Open the virtual machine you want to start

Open the virtual machine you want to start from the list of virtual machines in HOME.

By default, the filter is set to display only running virtual machines, so if you remove “power_state:running” from “Filters”, stopped virtual machines will be displayed.


2. Start the virtual machine

Click the “Start” button at the top of the screen.

After the virtual machine has finished booting, you can check the status of the booted virtual machine from the list screen and confirm that it is “running (green).”

Restart The Virtual Machine

1. Open the virtual machine you want to restart

Open the virtual machine you want to restart from the list of virtual machines in HOME.

2. Restart your virtual machine

Click the “Reboot” button at the top of the screen.

A modal window titled “Restart VM” will appear, click “OK”.

After the virtual machine has finished restarting, you can check the status of the restarted virtual machine from the list screen and confirm that it is now “running (green).”

Stopping a Virtual Machine

1. Open the virtual machine you want to stop

From the HOME virtual machine list screen, open the virtual machine you want to stop.

2. Shut down the virtual machine

Click the “Stop” button at the top of the screen.

A modal window titled “Stop VM” will appear, click “OK”.

After the virtual machine has been stopped, if you check the status of the stopped virtual machine from the list screen, you will see that it is now “halted (red)”.
