A hypervisor is software or firmware that allows multiple virtual machines to run and be managed simultaneously on a single physical server. This technology enables efficient operation of multiple operating systems (OS) on one physical server.
By utilizing hypervisors, businesses can achieve efficient resource management and create flexible environments. Additionally, through virtualization, hypervisors provide abstraction of physical devices, application isolation, rapid environment setup, and easy disaster recovery, offering many valuable benefits for businesses.
In on-premises environments, VMware ESXi has been highly regarded for years, being widely adopted in a range of industries, from small businesses to mission-critical systems. Its stability and ability to build robust virtualization infrastructures stand out. However, recently, price increases have become a challenge, leading especially small businesses and enterprises to consider alternative options. Despite this, VMware’s outstanding performance continues to be supported, and our VMware Private Cloud solution is optimized for high-end use cases.
With LOGIQ Private Cloud, you have the option to choose open-source hypervisors such as Xen and KVM. This solution focuses on seamless migration from on-premises to private cloud, providing customizable hypervisors that are suitable for enterprise mission-critical applications. By balancing cost and performance, LOGIQ enables you to build the most optimal cloud environment tailored to your needs.
XenOrchestra, used in the Xen type of LOGIQ Private Cloud, provides an overall simple and lightweight user interface. The dashboard is intuitive, and access to virtual machine lists, hosts, storage, and network resources is organized in a flat hierarchical structure. Tasks such as creating VMs, cloning, taking snapshots, and performing migrations can be completed with just a few clicks.
Although the flat design may not appeal to everyone, its minimalistic interface for Xen management and lack of unnecessary features make it easy to navigate without confusion. When migrating VMware VMs to a Xen environment, XenOrchestra allows direct integration with ESXi hosts for importing. Standard formats like OVF/OVA and VMDK are also supported for import.
Proxmox VE, used in the KVM type of LOGIQ Private Cloud, is an all-in-one tool that manages KVM and LXC containers in a unified way. The web interface has a pane structure similar to VMware’s vCenter, with hierarchical resource display in a tree format.
Proxmox VE encompasses a wide range of functions, such as cluster management, storage pools, network settings, backup scheduling, and container template management, all within a single UI. While the numerous options may initially seem overwhelming, once you become familiar with the interface, you’ll appreciate how much can be managed from a single screen. This setup is ideal for users who prefer to display and manage a lot of information within one interface.
When migrating VMware VMs to a KVM environment, Proxmox VE allows you to easily import VMware VMs by selecting the vmx file and clicking the Import button. Formats like OVA/OVF are also supported for import.
The design philosophy behind LOGIQ Private Cloud prioritizes robustness above all else. Unlike traditional approaches that focus on speed, the migration of virtualization platforms widely used in mission-critical on-premise environments—such as VMware and Nutanix (KVM)—requires a level of robustness that matches or even exceeds these systems.
In LOGIQ Private Cloud, we carefully balance the trade-off between isolation and resource sharing. While the operational speed of a private cloud is important, we focus more on fully utilizing the performance of latest hardware, such as CPUs, and prioritize the overall stability of the entire system in the hypervisor design. Rather than optimizing for consolidation ratios or benchmark metrics within VMs, the most important consideration is maintaining the stability of the entire system.
Here is a comparison table highlighting the main differences between each hypervisor used in LOGIQ Private Cloud. Please choose the most suitable hypervisor based on your use case and requirements.
